wow how time has flown and how bad have I been at blogging, but in my defense it has been really busy here ...lol
So i thought I would blog today because its an important day, today 1 year ago my little boys started their journey into this world...
I can still remember shaking, laughing and crying all at the same time when I heard that my donor had gotten 17 eggs (it completely blew my mind, seeing as I only ever got 2...lol)
How amazing to think that the little cells that met that day, made my gorgeous little boys, I am truly blessed and so thank full.
I am a mommy and I am so happy to have these gorgeous little men in my life.
And what a year it has been, we went from being a lonely couple to being pregnant with twins, delivering at 36w6d and having healthy beautiful boys.
Other than that, time has flown and so much has happened.
The boys are 4 months old already and getting cuter by the day, but more on that later...
We moved house 2 months ago and my DH has been away from home a lot! In 6 weeks he was home for 3 nights, needless to say it was hard, i felt like a single parent, not fun!
And the boys have become little yet setters handling 8 hr flights like little pros.
So that has been life in a nutshell...

So far, so good
Very proud of myself, we made it this far...
2 babies bathed, changed, fed, burped and sleeping! Yeay!
Bottles washed, sterilized, formula made and the house is not looking to bad
Time for mommy to sleep!

Home alone
The house is so quiet as I am typing this, my gorgeous boys fast asleep...for now, lol.
My DH is away on a trip and my mom left to go back to SA this morning. It was with such a heavy heart that I watched her go, she loves these little boys so much, and I am so happy that she bonded with them so amazingly, just such a gift.
And off course she is my mommy, and she took care of me like only a mom can, my house has never looked this good, the boys washing done, formula made, bottles sterilized and best I'd all she did night time feeds for me so I could sleep,( Hugh sigh, how am I ever gonna cope without her!)
I miss her already!!!
That's the sad part about living abroad, family is far away and they miss so much, I only realize now how much they miss, next time she sees the boys they will be 4 months old already!
And they grow so fast, at our weekly weigh in Aaron tipped the scales at 4.78kg and Aiden is 4.14kg, my little man has outgrown his tiny baby clothes and can now wear newborn comfortable, probable not for long, while Aaron is in 1-3month clothes, it's scary how fast they grow!!!
I switched their formula last week, they are now on Hipp Organic and they are doing so good on it, I definitely prefer it!
As for BF its done, all over and my milk is just about gone. I am sad I would have loved to BF for much longer but it didn't work out that way for us. Both little guys are finishing 180 ml bottles, not all the time but most.
So for the first time I am taking care of the boys all by myself, I was so scared and nervous that I would not be able to cope, but I think we might just make it, till Daddy comes home...lol
I did however decide to get help, I'm interviewing For a full time maid/nanny. I have been looking forward to having these babies for such a long time that I want to cherish every moment with them and not be tired from house work and the never ending string of bottles that need to be washed and sterilized, mountains of clothes that need to be washed ( coz my sweet Aiden is such a messy eater)? So here is hoping that we will get the perfect lady to help us.
So thats our little update, let's see what flying solo is like ...

One month update
I really liked the updates fellow bloggers are doing, great way to keep track of babies development
Twin 1 Aiden. Twin 2 Aaron
Age- 1 month but corrected age 1 week old
Weight- Aiden is weighing in at 3.5kg and Aaron is 4kg!!!
Development- They are starting to focus on my face and whoever is holding them, little milky smiles every now and then. Picking their heads up when they are lying on a persons chest.
Eating- what a learning curve this has been. We started off breastfeeding both babies and then giving them a 30 ml formula to up. We kept this up for the first week until Aiden was taken up in hospital. I was then no longer aloud to breastfeed my babes as they where worried about Aaron getting the infection as well, so onto expressing we went. I was only expressing about 20ml per side, so they started giving Aiden more and more formula as they where feeding him on demand.
So we just started doing the same with Aaron as well, my poor babies must have been starving all along as they were polishing off just over 60ml at each feed.
By the time we where released from Hospital, little Aiden had become such a fussy eater, it would take us an hour to try and feed him, with most of it ending up on his clothes anyway.
Aaron on the other hand became an eating machine, man that little dude rocks!
Both boys became too lazy to breastfeed and are now formula fed with 1 bottle of expressed BM a day.
Unfortunately my milk supply is dwindling fast!
I'm still trying but seems I'm fighting a loosing battle
Had a consult with our midwife today and Aaron can start drinking 150 ml per feed and Aiden 130ml(when he feels like it ...lol)
Sleep- They mostly sleep after every feed, sometimes they will stay awake, no real pattern yet, at night they get a dreamfeed at about 10 or 11pm which will take them to about 2 or 3am and then we will have another 3-4 hrs of sleep.
Our babies are quite noisy with lotsa little grunts and stretches at night, keeps you checking on them while they are happily in dreamland...lol
Favourite things - Milk! Their bottles and dummies (pacifiers)are a very close second. They also seem to love their bath
Dislikes- Changing their diapers when they are hungry and being cold.
Their accomplishments- They can both lift their heads and turn it the other way, we have seen the first little smiles and a coo or two, way too cute. And if you hold an object close to them they will follow it with their eyes for a couple of seconds. Our babies are really good little boys so far, easy babies, hope it lasts...lol
Our accomplishments- Taking care of twins!! Wow, it's really hard work!
Looking forward too- Real smiles for mommy and daddy and hopefully more sleep, but at the same time they grow up so fast I don't want to wish time away, just want this reall new baby phase
Mommy thoughts- love, love, love, love!!!!!

Our birth story
The night before our scheduled c-section I had contractions again the whole night, all between 2 and 5min apart, drove me crazy!
So eventually by 6 the next morning I was exhausted and hubby said we should just head over to the hospital earlier than planned.
We got there and as usual the contractions stopped just as they started monitoring them, so they gave us a room and said we could just wait there till our planned c-section at 3pm.
It turned out to be a lazy morning with us dozing most of the time, babies kicking every now and again, loads of hiccups from our one little man. We chatted with most of the family on Skype and took some silly photos of mommy and daddy to be ...lol
The one thing I remember is being sooo thirsty and not being allowed to drink any water, needless to say I drank a bit every time I went to the loo...lol
An hour before the time I got my IV lines put in.
And before I knew it I was wheeled into the theatre
Met the anesthetist, lovely dr, and just waited for Dr R to come.
Before my spinal block, they administered a local anesthetic and then went ahead with the procedure, it really didn't hurt at all, maybe a bit uncomfortable but that was about it.
I lay down and just kept thinking that I could still feel my toes.
DH came in all smiles camera ready and dressed in his scrubs, I felt a lot of tugging and I kept thinking I can feel my toes and I wonder when they gonna cut, when my hubbies eyes lit up and he looked at me.
I heard a gurgled little cry and saw the nurses rush past my head, I kept looking and asking my hubby if the baby was ok, he just smiled and said he was fine.
They where working on our first born behind my head so I couldn't really see anything and I had to rely on DH to tell me everything.
We waited a bit and then I heard dr R call for forceps. Scary moment as I had no idea what was going on. Our second LO's head was tilted so far back that they couldn't reach it. Then Dr R instructed the nurses to push down on my stomach, aparrently our little boy was tucked up quite high. A few seconds later a Nurse rushed past me again and it felt like an eternity before I heard my boy's little cry, I laughed and cried at the same time. But mostly kept asking if he was ok. I think I asked the same question about 10 times...
My hubby moved between me and the boys the whole time, camera forgotten around his neck...lol
Eventually he just said that he couldn't take photos as all of this was just to precious to miss.
While I got stitched up I started feeling a bit weird, felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest and my neck muscles went into little spasms, really not nice
Fortunately they brought over my boys at that time and I got to see my precious angels for the first time.
They where beautiful and perfect in every way and just sooo gorgeous!
Our first little man was born at 15.49pm and weighed in at 2.4 kg, 46.5cm tall
Baba nr 2 was born at 15.50pm and weighed in at 2.9kg, 51cm tall
Both babies did so well, and the pead was happy to let them stay with us.
We got wheeled into recovery and a little while later we got to all go to our room together where I got to nurse the boys for the first time .
Our birth experience was special, but not nearly as special as meeting and spending time with our boys, it's amazing how you can just stare at these little humans and love them more than anything. How your love for them is just all consuming and complete...
After our first 2 nursing sessions the boys sugar levels got tested, unfortunately it kept dropping so we had to supplement their feeds with formula.
We tried over the next 3days to just get them to only nurse from me but every time we did, their sugar levels would drop, so formula was the only way to keep it up.
All I can say is that we are blessed!
Our boys are gorgeous and perfect and we are so in love, it's so much more than we ever expected, it's just heavenly!
And to see my husband love his little boys... Well it's amazing!!!

Wow time flies!
Haven't updated in ages!
Tomorrow we have been home from hospital for a week already!
Both babies are doing so well and growing way to fast!
Today was my initial due date for the boys ...
Instead they have been with us for 3 weeks.
3weeks that have been amazing and wonderful and so tiring but all worth it
Hopefully I will get our birtstory down soon, before I forget everything...
But for now I'm just soooo in love with my babies, nothing quite like it

Back to hospital
Our smaller baby was taken up in isolation in NICU yesterday with what seems to be a skin infection.
We are waiting for blood culture results, to know exactly what is going on.
He is currently on 3 broad spectrum antibiotics given to him intravenously.
Absolutely heartbreaking seeing him like this and being separated from him...
